Interview Coaching Sucess Stories:

“The interview coaching was extremely helpful. I clarified what message I wanted to convey at the interview. Previously I just tended to waffle at interviews….I clarified the information regarding my experience and skills which was important and structured some responses. I was prepared for some difficult questions which had previously thrown me. The interview coaching was empowering and I handled the interview confidently. Fitting me in at short notice was greatly appreciated. Good job!”

Career Assessment - How we help other clients...

To help you imagine how career counseling can be useful to you, here are two clients' stories:

Career Services Success Stories:

John had been a member of the Australian Defence Force for twelve years. He enjoyed his work but with a young family, his priorities had shifted. After consultation, his core goals for the process were defined as:

  1. I want to earn $XX,XXX
  2. I don’t want to work shift work, risk or stress. I want time and energy for my family.
  3. I want to apply my strengths in communication, analysis and management in a different work environment
  4. I can only commit to part time study.

Assessment:

Case Study 1: John underwent vocational testing which determined that his personality profile was enterprising, that he enjoyed influencing others, leading a goal orientated group and initiating new direction. He was highly social; enjoyed educating, working in collaboration with others and communicating with a purpose. Core values of responsibility, integrity and commitment to improving community underpinned his relationships and work style.

John's vocational profile reflected a dynamic balance between strong analytical skills, a realistic and pragmatic approach and capacity to motivate and influence within a professional network.

After a review of occupations which suited this profile, John identified Occupational Health and Safety as being of particular interest. This would provide a different application for his experience and diversified skill base gained through his career in the Australian Defence Force.

A review of training options led to John enrolling in a course as an external student. This could be used as credit to higher education and conversion to a Bachelor’s degree in the future if he wished to pursue further study.

resume, cover letter, selection criteria, career services, jobsA review of current statistical data gave John information about expected income, career opportunity and market demand for this professional category.

John’s career as an officer had provided him with skills in communication, leadership, risk management, analysis and strategic planning. His apprenticeship in fitting and turning provided invaluable additional expertise pertinent to this career change.

John completed a course part time and has since won employment with a major employer in the petro chemical industry who recognized his transferable skills and personal attributes. He brings multiple skills– applied in a work environment which met his criteria and whole life goals.

John reports a high level of satisfaction with his career change and some surprise that he (who thought “once army always army”) could affect such a successful transition.

Case Study 2 - Feedback Student: “My son had no idea what he wanted to do and we struggled with subject selection for his year 11 and 12. Your assessment was insightful (have you met our family before?!), full of useful ideas and information and provided a springboard for discussion and decision making. You assisted with information about education, courses and employment prospects. It has transformed our son’s attitude to school as he now has a goal he is committed to.”
